_industries / HealthTech: HIPAA · MHMDA · GDPR

Health data is the most personal data there is. We build systems that treat it that way.

iFlux builds the systems US HealthTech companies run on: patient record platforms with role-based access and full audit trails, AI that flags diagnostic patterns for a clinician to decide on, and infrastructure that speaks HL7 and FHIR (the two standards hospitals use to exchange patient data) so it plugs into the health systems you already have. Every system ships built to HIPAA, state health-privacy law, and GDPR from day one.

// under every framework that actually covers you.
// HIPAA is the floor. State law raises it.
// GDPR on top if you have EU patients.
We don't learn your compliance requirements after you hire us.

_problems we've actually solved

// patient recordsdigital health data

Health records that are instantly accessible to the right people, and completely locked to everyone else

A patient record system that a doctor can't access quickly in an emergency is as dangerous as one that anyone can access anytime. We build health record systems with role-based access, audit trails on every view, and the kind of availability that clinical workflows demand, without trading security for convenience.

// AI diagnosticsreport analysis

AI that analyses medical reports and supports diagnosis, without crossing the clinical liability line

We've built AI systems that process lab reports, radiology results, and patient history to surface anomalies and relevant patterns for clinical review. The AI flags. The doctor decides. That boundary isn't a limitation. It's the engineering discipline that makes the system trustworthy enough to use in a real clinical environment.

// insurance claimsAI-assisted processing

Insurance claim processing where a document error costs the patient weeks, not just an inconvenience

Health insurance claims fail at the document layer: missing fields, incorrect codes, mismatched diagnoses. We build AI-assisted claim processing that validates documents before submission, flags discrepancies before rejection, and gives patients a system that works for them instead of against them.

// pharma quick-commercemedicine delivery

Pharmacy quick-commerce where a stockout on a critical medication is a patient safety issue, not a UX problem

10 to 30 minute medicine delivery platforms have a different risk profile than standard quick-commerce. Inventory accuracy isn't about customer satisfaction. It's about whether a patient gets what they need when they need it. We build pharma e-commerce with real-time inventory truth, substitution logic for generics, and the cold chain tracking that prescription fulfilment requires.

// medical supply chainlogistics & cold chain

Medical supply chain where cold chain integrity has to be logged, not assumed

A vaccine stored at the wrong temperature for two hours is a waste and a liability. A surgical supply that arrives late is a delayed procedure. We build medical supply chain visibility platforms with cold chain monitoring, real-time inventory tracking, and the audit infrastructure that healthcare procurement requires.

// health document digitisationOCR & structuring

Health document digitisation where a misread scan has clinical consequences, not just operational ones

Digitising health records isn't a scanning exercise. A misread dosage on a prescription, a missed allergy flag in a referral letter: the consequences of inaccurate digitisation in healthcare are clinical, not operational. We build health document digitisation pipelines with validation layers, human-in-the-loop review for ambiguous cases, and structured output that clinical systems can actually use.

_the AI boundary
in healthcare// the most important
// line we draw

Every HealthTech team evaluating AI right now is asking the same question: where does the AI stop and the clinician start?

We've built AI systems for health report analysis, diagnostic support, and insurance claim processing. In every one of them, the same principle holds.

The AI surfaces. The clinician decides. Always. Without exception.

Not because the technology can't do more, but because the liability, the trust, and the ethics of healthcare demand that a human remains accountable for every clinical decision. We build systems that make clinicians faster and better informed. Not systems that make them redundant.

If a vendor is telling you their AI can replace clinical judgment, ask them who carries the liability when it's wrong. We already know the answer, and we build accordingly.

// AI that supports clinical judgment.
// never replaces it.
// that's not a limitation. it's the engineering
// discipline that makes it trustworthy.

We've shipped under HIPAA, MHMDA, GDPR, and PDPA — sometimes in the same engagement. Personal health data has no jurisdiction-free zone.

// we don't learn your compliance requirements after you hire us.
// we bring the framework knowledge on day one.
// and we build the audit trail that proves it.

_the compliance
layer// four frameworks.
// one team.
// real implementation
// experience.

HIPAA

// United States

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. PHI (protected health information) handling, BAA (business associate agreement) requirements, minimum necessary access, breach notification: implemented across multiple US health platforms.

GDPR

// European Union

General Data Protection Regulation. The global gold standard. Lawful basis for processing, data subject rights, DPA (data processing agreement) requirements, cross-border transfer mechanisms: engineered in, not bolted on.

UK GDPR

// United Kingdom

The UK's own version of GDPR, kept in domestic law after Brexit and enforced by the ICO. Overlaps heavily with EU GDPR but diverges on international transfer mechanisms and NHS Digital's own data security standards, which we build to as their own requirement, not an afterthought of the EU rule.

UAE Health Data Law

// United Arab Emirates

Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection, plus Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DoH) data standards for licensed health providers. We build patient-data residency and access controls to what each emirate's regulator actually inspects, not a generic reading of the federal law.

PDPA

// Thailand / Singapore

Personal Data Protection Act. Southeast Asian market data privacy requirements: consent management, data controller obligations, and cross-border transfer restrictions.

MHMDA

// Washington State, 2023

Washington's My Health My Data Act. One of the newest major US health-privacy frameworks, and one of the least understood: it covers consumer health apps and wearables that HIPAA doesn't touch. We have real implementation experience as the law matures.

HL7 / FHIR

// Health Interoperability

HL7 (Health Level 7) and FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) are the language hospitals and health systems speak to each other. We build systems that integrate with existing health infrastructure, not ones that require replacing it.

TEFCA

// US National Health Data Exchange

The Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement: the US national backbone for health information exchange between providers, health systems, and Qualified Health Information Networks (QHINs). We build to it, not around it.

_what a HealthTech compliance audit looks like

iflux — healthtech_compliance_audit.sh
~/iflux/Industries/HealthTech $ audit --compliance=HIPAA,GDPR,MHMDA --clinical=true
→ Scanning patient data access controls...
⚠ PHI accessible without role verification on 3 endpoints. HIPAA violation risk.
⚠ Audit log missing for record view events. Cannot demonstrate minimum necessary access.
→ Checking data residency and cross-border transfers...
✗ EU patient data routed through US servers without SCCs. Active GDPR violation.
→ Running AI diagnostic system review...
⚠ AI output presented as diagnosis: no clinician review gate in workflow. Liability gap.
→ Auditing health document digitisation pipeline...
⚠ OCR confidence threshold not set. Low-confidence reads passing without human review.
→ Checking insurance claim document validation...
⚠ ICD-10 codes not validated before submission. 23% rejection rate traceable to this.
→ Scanning pharma inventory accuracy...
⚠ Cold chain temperature logs stored locally only. Not auditable by regulators.
✓ Audit complete. 6 issues found. 1 active compliance violation. Priority list generated.
→ Remediation plan includes HIPAA, GDPR, and clinical safety fixes.

_frequently asked

Can you build a patient records system that's HIPAA compliant?

Yes. HIPAA (the US law protecting patient health information) is the baseline we design to on every US health project, not a checklist we run afterward. We build role-based access so only the right people see a given record, full audit trails on every view, and the BAA-ready (business associate agreement) infrastructure covered patients and providers require, from the first commit.

Do you support HL7 and FHIR so we can integrate with our existing health systems?

Yes. HL7 and FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources — a standard format that lets different hospital and clinic systems exchange patient records) are how health infrastructure talks to itself, and we build to those standards rather than a custom format. That means new systems we build plug into your existing electronic health records, labs, and referral networks instead of requiring you to replace them.

How does your AI stay safe to use in a clinical context, without replacing a doctor's judgment?

We hold one rule across every clinical AI system we've built for report analysis, diagnostics, or claims: the AI surfaces patterns and flags anomalies, the clinician decides. That boundary exists because liability and trust in healthcare require a human accountable for every clinical decision, so our systems make doctors faster and better informed, not redundant.

Is HIPAA compliance enough, or do we need to worry about state-level health privacy law too?

HIPAA alone usually isn't enough. It only binds "covered entities": traditional providers, insurers, and their business associates. A lot of modern HealthTech, consumer health apps, wearables, wellness platforms, falls outside that definition and is instead governed by newer state laws like Washington's My Health My Data Act, which regulates consumer health data far more broadly than HIPAA does. If you also have EU users, GDPR applies on top of both. We build to whichever stack of frameworks actually covers your product, not just the one everyone's heard of.

Can your systems produce the audit trail a regulator or compliance auditor will actually ask for?

Yes. Every system we build for health data logs who accessed a record, when, and why, which is what regulators mean by minimum necessary access. That same discipline extends to cold chain temperature logs for pharmacy and medical supply chain, and to ICD (International Classification of Diseases) code validation on insurance claims, so the evidence an auditor asks for already exists.
